 # 25 - Swamp Fox 50 Mile 
-Paddle & Camp Trail

 54 miles 

 

 Experience South Carolina's only established 

 4 night, 5 day paddle trip! Paddle the state's 

 largest lake, Lake Marion, camp at a state park, 

 pass by historic landmarks and experience 

 Lake Moultrie. Epic wildlife is guaranteed. The 

 paddle trail has bald eagles, just about every 
-type of heron known to the Low Country, egrets, 
-other waterfowl, otters, beavers, deer and so 
-much more. This is bucket list level of adventure!

NOTE:  The Swamp Fox 50 Mile Paddle & Camp Trail is located in more than just Berkeley County. Although

there are more miles of the trail in Berkeley County than any other, it begins in Calhoun County and crosses

through Orangeburg County. This blueway was originally created by paddlers from Berkeley County and the

Berkeley Soil & Water Conservation District has always managed the information. It became an official

Berkeley Blueway in 2019. 

 

Difficulty:  Daily sections range from moderate to very strenuous. 

Distance:  54 miles total.

TimeEach section can take between 6 - 10 hours/day.

CrowdsVery light. You’re likely not to see any other paddlers on this trip. You will see many motorized

boats.

Boat TypeVERY IMPORTANT: Touring kayaks or canoes, capable of holding camping gear, fresh water and supplies for multi-day trips. Because of open water and capacity, minimum of 14-ft. long recommended.

Beginning of Trail:  Lake Marion, Lowfalls Landing, 958 Low Falls Road, Cameron, SC 29030. 803-823-9074.

Fees/Permits:  None, except camping fee for night # 1 at Santee State Park.

Current:  If you get out into the open water, there could be a small current in the south direction. Also, there

could be a stronger current in the Diversion Canal between Lakes Marion and Moultrie.

Tidal Influence:  None. 

Trees Down or Other Obstructions?  If you come across downed trees, limbs or other obstructions while paddling

this blueway, please let us know. We can often facilitate removing it. Contact us at 843-433-0361 or 843-719-4146

Precautions:  Experienced paddlers, navigators and campers are recommended for this expedition. Winds

across open water can cause waves and whitecaps. There are tree stumps located in the water near the surface. Watch out for motorized boat traffic. The use of a compass and/or a GPS is strongly encouraged for this trip.
